Do you want to start running for fitness or to train for a fun run but not sure where to start? It can seem like a huge task to start a running routine. But it doesn’t have to be!
Make sure you wear comfortable clothing when you run. You don’t want to feel restricted or worse end up with chaffing!
Start small! You’re not going to be able to run 20kms right away (especially if you haven’t done much running before).
Start by just using a timer (don’t even worry about the distance if you don’t want to, or use a gps device to measure distance). Focus on just running for 10 mins without stopping. Pick a direction to run in and go out for 5mins then turn around and set yourself a challenge to get back to your starting place in the remaining 5mins.
Try to run 2-3 times per week and increase the time you run for in increments of 5mins per week until you can run for 30-40mins without stopping (or how ever long or far you want to be running for.)
Always remember to hydrate well both before you start and when you finish running, as well as having a nutritious snack after you run to assist in recovery!
Most of all ENJOY YOURSELF! Pick different courses to run, make a great running playlist, challenge yourself, even run with a buddy if you find that more fun. Just enjoy the run!
